Mercedes-Benz's new G 580 model is equipped with EQ Technology, pushing the boundaries of off-road capabilities. Features like G-TURN, G-STEERING, and intelligent off-road low gear function enable this car to make a perfect entry into the electric era.

At the Auto China 2024 event, Mercedes-Benz premiered two new models and introduced new car technologies. The new fully electric G Series maintains its iconic design while demonstrating its presence on future roads with an electric motor, lithium-ion batteries, and a reinforced ladder frame chassis. With a usable 116 kWh capacity, it provides sufficient energy for a range of 473 kilometers according to WLTP standards.

What does the new Mercedes-Benz G Series offer?

The G 580 (or EQG) is designed to tackle any challenge with independently controllable electric motors producing a maximum of 432 kW total power. It optimizes the driving experience with an off-road low gear option. The EQG stands out on dirt roads with a 360-degree rotating capability called G-Turn at low speeds, while the G-STEERING feature provides superior maneuverability in tight turns. The Offroad crawling function facilitates driving off-road by delivering optimum power. Mercedes-Benz's EQG model demonstrates impressive performance not only off-road but also on city streets. The electric SUV accelerates rapidly, reaching a maximum speed of 180 km/h. Tested and proven, this car instills confidence with its ability to climb gradients up to 100%.

Like the tested versions, the new Mercedes-Benz G 580 equipped with EQ Technology can handle slopes up to 100% on suitable surfaces. The car maintains balance on inclines up to 35 degrees. The electric G series boasts 150 millimeters better ground clearance and can ford waters up to 850 millimeters deep compared to traditional engines. The LOW RANGE off-road transmission enhances driving power with a special reduction step. The new model practically replicates the operation of conventional differential locks with smart torque. Additionally, G-ROAR introduces a unique sound experience to the entirely new electric G Series. Alongside the driving sound feature of the G series, it adds ambient "aura" sounds and various "condition" noises.

The new EQG stands out with its striking exterior design and unique features. Standard features include MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) infotainment system, a Nappa leather multifunction steering wheel, and ambient lighting. Optional features such as KEYLESS-GO, temperature-controlled cup holders, Burmester® 3D surround sound system, and features like the 'transparent hood' further enhance the driving experience. The redesigned off-road driving control unit and new OFFROAD COCKPIT add additional digital functionalities to enhance the off-road experience. Additionally, a limited-edition model called EDITION ONE, featuring an expanded range of standard features and unique design elements, will be launched for sale at the unveiling.
